As reported by WBOY-TV, the City of Morgantown needs poll workers for the April 27 Municipal Election. Christine Wade, Morgantown City Clerk, said the city has 36 workers for nine precincts, but that more alternate poll workers are needed.
According to the City Clerk, no state code relates to Morgantown’s efforts to have an adequate supply of poll workers.
All polls must have representation from more than one political party, and the City Clerk states her goal is to find a good mixture of Democrats, Republicans, Independents, no parties within each precinct.
Poll workers are paid for their efforts. Volunteers make $50 for attending a two-hour training. And poll workers make $150 for Election Day, when polls are open from 6:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m., though with an earlier start and later finish for poll workers.
Given COVID-19 issues, Morgantown will use an online training platform to make the process easier. Also, the City Clerk states the type of training has increased, with the inclusion of diversity training and more unspecified topics.
Anyone interested who meets the requirements—18 and older, a registered voter, and willing to work Election Day—can apply online to work as a poll worker.
