Milton Votes to Align Elections with Cabell County’s General Ballot
Voters changed the Charter on May 4, 2021 to move Milton's future elections to synch with Cabell County's November ballot starting in 2024.
Imagine it’s after Labor Day, 2024: the West Virginia Pumpkin Festival, Cabell-Midland football games, Foxfire balloon rides, family outings are in full swing once again. Amid the cut grass and piled cornstalks in Milton, election signs are out in advance of the November 5, 2024, General Election.
Political talk is nothing new. You’re used to chatting from your porch and over your fence with neighbors about anything under the sun (without getting burned.)
What is new to the fall political landscape and discussion are signs for Milton City Council election races. People are not only talking about who they will cast a ballot for in the presidential race at the top of the ticket, they’re talking about down-ballot races close to home. For the first time, Milton voters will elect city leaders when they go to the polls on even-years in November instead of odd-years in May.
Nobody seems bothered to have skipped a city election in 2023. Sure, typical banter is still strong at the post office and elsewhere in town, but citizens generally seem happy with having made the change: they now receive fewer sporadic political solicitations and ads on the off-years, while confidently knowing the city is saving money and getting more voter input in Milton’s municipal election.
Thanks to Milton citizens who voted on May 4, 2021 to change Milton’s Charter to align future elections with Cabell County’s ballot starting with the November 5, 2024 election. You put Milton ahead. Your common sense is commendable!
