Nov. 8 Election Day Recall Petition Signature Drive
On Tues., Nov. 8, sign on to enacting term limits, aligning elections and recalling Morgantown City Council. Stop by 280 Eureka Drive near Precinct 16 from 6:30 AM-7:30 PM.
A signature drive will be held from 6:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. at 280 Eureka Drive, outside the 100-ft official no electioneering zone, near Morgantown’s Precinct 16 at the BOPARC Senior & Community Center at the historic Wiles Hill School. Stop by on your way or after you vote to sign to enact term limits, align election dates with a future general election in November, and recall any and or all of Morgantown’s City Council.
Since a citizen-led effort to recall all of Morgantown City Council launched in July, additional information has come to light that further supports taking action now to change local government before bad gets worse.
First, it was shown Morgantown City Council didn’t verify and hold City Manager Kim Haws accountable for not adhering to the Charter’s residency requirements beyond adding new contract stipulations. Since being hired and until brought to light by a citizen, Haws was accused of moonlighting and commuting to and from his home in Harrison County.
More troubling, Morgantown Mayor, Jenny Selin, has been accused by MUB Board Chair J.T. Straface of attempting to strongarm or “leverage” MUB to agree to improvements not consistent with MUB’s Flegal Dam & Reservoir in exchange for releasing the City’s committed share of $1 million dollars of federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding to make storm water improvements on Stewart Street and Willowdale Road to mitigate Popenoe Run flooding issues.
